Introducing DarkSky Wisconsin

Wisconsin’s DarkSky International Chapter

Save the Night

Light pollution is the excessive and misdirected artificial light that washes out our night skies. It dims the stars, disrupts the natural rhythms of wildlife, and disconnects us from the sense of wonder that comes with a truly dark night. As the glow grows, birds lose their way, fireflies struggle to communicate, and ecosystems fall out of balance. Protecting darkness means protecting nature, our health, and our shared connection to the night.

DarkSky Wisconsin is dedicated to restoring and preserving the wonder of the night.

We focus on three key efforts that guide our mission:

Our mission is to cultivate an awareness of and appreciation for the beauty of Wisconsin’s dark skies and their importance in our lives.

Protect the Night Sky

By protecting the night sky, we preserve not only our ability to study the universe but also safeguard biodiversity, enhance human well-being, and maintain cultural heritage. Preservation is key to ensuring future generations can enjoy and benefit from the night sky.

Reverse Light Pollution

The good news is that light pollution can be reversed. Simple changes around your home and neighborhood can help restore the night sky.
